Flor Naciente

Our History

The institutional experience carried forward by Flor Naciente dates back to 1989, when Law 75 of that year provided for the creation of the Luis Carlos Galán Institute for the Development of Democracy as a national public institution attached to the Ministry of National Education.

From 1993 to 2004, the Institute delivered projects in democracy education, civic education and leadership, particularly for children, adolescents, young people and teachers. This work led to the development of training and community participation methods that were subsequently applied in new social and territorial settings.

In 2004, the Institute was liquidated and replaced by Corporación Escuela Galán para el Desarrollo de la Democracia. This transformation converted a wholly public entity into a mixed public-private corporation that continued and broadened its experience through social, productive, community-based, educational, territorial and institutional-strengthening projects.

In May 2024, the General Assembly of Members of Escuela Galán decided to place the organization into liquidation. Once that process was completed, Corporación Flor Naciente was established, with Escuela Galán as one of its founding members. Flor Naciente was created to continue delivering the types of projects previously undertaken by Escuela Galán and to place that experience at the service of vulnerable families and communities throughout Colombia.
